A Tragic Event: The 1964 Explosion
On June 26, 1964, a very serious accident happened in Marshalls Creek. A truck carrying dynamite had some tire trouble. The driver pulled over near a reptile farm. He didn't know the tires were getting hot and smoking.
While the driver went to find a phone, the truck exploded. This terrible event caused several deaths. Three volunteer firefighters, a local resident, a passing driver, and another truck driver were killed. It was a very sad day for the community.
