During the tournament, Marta defeated some tough opponents. In the second round, she beat Dominique Van Roost. Van Roost had just defeated the No. 2 player, Lindsay Davenport. Marta then won against Rossana de los Ríos in the fourth round. It was a special moment because it was the first time two qualifiers had ever met in the fourth round of the French Open. Marta's amazing run ended when she lost to Conchita Martínez, who later became the runner-up in the tournament.
At the 2001 French Open, Marta continued to play well, reaching the third round. She was eventually defeated by Kim Clijsters, another strong player.

Marta also competed in the doubles competition at the 2007 US Open. She and her partner, Selima Sfar, won their first match against a strong team. However, they lost in the second round to the French Open doubles champions.
