Martha Medeiros was born in Porto Alegre in 1961. Her parents are José Bernardo Barreto de Medeiros and Isabella Matos de Medeiros. She studied at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS) in Porto Alegre. She graduated in 1982, becoming a journalist.

Her Career as a Journalist

After finishing her studies, Martha started working as a journalist. She wrote for the newspaper Zero Hora in Porto Alegre. She also wrote for O Globo, a big newspaper in Rio de Janeiro.

Becoming a Writer

Martha lived in Chile for nine months. During this time, she started writing poems. When she returned to Porto Alegre, she continued her work as a journalist. However, she also kept writing her own stories and poems.
