Martijn Spierenburg (born 30 January 1975) is a talented composer and arranger from the Netherlands. He is well-known for his work as a keyboardist for the Dutch symphonic metal band Within Temptation. He was a member of the band from 2001 until 2024.
Martijn also creates music for other projects. In 2018, he was chosen to compose music for a musical called "Nieuw Amsterdam." This show tells the story of the Dutch people in the early days of New York City. It follows the success of another popular Dutch musical, "Soldaat van Oranje."
Martijn's Music Career
Martijn Spierenburg has written and arranged music for many different artists. His work can be heard in TV shows and even video games. He joined Within Temptation in 2001. This was shortly after the band released their second album, Mother Earth.
Working with Within Temptation
During his time with Within Temptation, Martijn helped write many songs. Some of these popular songs include "Angels" and "Memories." He also co-wrote "Jillian (I'd Give My Heart)", "Our Solemn Hour", "The Cross", "Sinéad", and "Forgiven". When performing live, Martijn uses ROLAND keyboards.
Orchestral Arrangements
Besides playing keyboards, Martijn is also in charge of the orchestra for Within Temptation. He writes the orchestral parts for their songs. He also guides the orchestra when the band records their albums. This helps create the big, powerful sound that symphonic metal is known for.
