Martin Jiránek is a former professional footballer from the Czech Republic. He was born in Prague on May 25, 1979. Martin played as a defender, which means his main job was to stop the other team from scoring goals.
He played for many different football clubs in several countries. He also represented his home country, the Czech Republic, in international tournaments. In 2002, he was part of the Czech team that won the 2002 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship. He also played for the senior national team in the Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup.

Martin Jiránek had a long and successful career playing football. He played for clubs in the Czech Republic, Italy, Russia, and England.
Early Days in Czech Football
Martin started his professional football journey in 1997 with Bohemians Prague. He played 55 games for them. In 1999, he moved to Slovan Liberec. With Slovan Liberec, he played 32 matches and helped the team win the Czech Cup in the 1999-2000 season. This was an important trophy for the club.
Playing in Italy with Reggina
In 2001, Martin Jiránek moved to Italy to play for Reggina. At that time, Reggina was in Serie B, which is the second-highest football league in Italy. He played 100 league games for Reggina. He helped his team get promoted to Serie A, Italy's top football league, in the 2001-2002 season.
Time in Russia with Spartak Moscow
In 2004, Spartak Moscow in Russia bought Martin Jiránek for about €4.7 million. He quickly became a regular player in their starting team and stayed there for six years. From 2009 to 2010, he even became the captain of the team, which is a big honor.
Playing in England with Birmingham City
On August 31, 2010, Martin moved to England to join Birmingham City. This team played in the Premier League, which is the top football league in England. He signed a one-year contract.
He made his first appearance for Birmingham City in a League Cup match. Later, he became a regular player after another defender got injured. Martin was part of the team that won the League Cup Final in 2011. They beat Arsenal 2-1 at Wembley Stadium, which was a huge achievement for Birmingham City. After the season, Birmingham City was relegated from the Premier League, and Martin decided not to stay with the club.
Later Career in Russia and Czech Republic
In July 2011, Martin Jiránek signed a two-year contract with Terek Grozny, another club in the Russian Premier League. During his second season there, he scored an amazing goal from 45 yards away!
After Terek Grozny, he played for Tom Tomsk from 2013 to 2016. He then returned to the Czech Republic, playing for Příbram in 2016-2017 and Dukla Prague from 2017 to 2018, before ending his professional career.

Youth and Senior Team Appearances
He was part of the Czech team that won the UEFA U-21 Championships in 2002. This was a great start to his international career.
He made his first appearance for the senior national team in 2002 against Poland. His first big international tournament was Euro 2004, where he played in four matches. He was unfortunately injured before the semi-final game.
Martin was also chosen for the Czech squad for the 2006 World Cup. Even though he played in five qualifying matches, he did not get to play in the final tournament games. He also played in five qualifying matches for Euro 2008 but missed the tournament due to an ankle injury.
