Martin Jiránek (born May 25, 1979) is a former professional footballer from the Czech Republic. He played as a defender for many top clubs across Europe and for the Czech national team.
Jiránek was a talented defender known for his strong play. He was part of the Czech under-21 team that won the 2002 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship. He also played for the main national team in big tournaments like Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup.

Club Career
Jiránek played for many different football clubs during his long career. He traveled across Europe, playing in the top leagues of several countries.
Starting in the Czech Republic
Jiránek began his career in his home country. In 1997, he started playing for Bohemians Prague. He played 55 games for them before moving to Slovan Liberec in 1999. With Slovan Liberec, he helped the team win the Czech Cup in the 1999–2000 season.
Move to Italy
In 2001, Jiránek moved to Italy to play for Reggina. The team was in Serie B, the second-highest league in Italy. During his time there, he played in 100 league games. He was a key player in helping Reggina get promoted to Serie A, Italy's top football league, in 2002.
Years in Russia
Spartak Moscow
In 2004, the Russian club Spartak Moscow paid €4.7 million to sign Jiránek. He quickly became a regular starter for the team and played with them for six years. From 2009 to 2010, he was even chosen to be the team's captain.
Terek Grozny and Tom Tomsk
After leaving Spartak Moscow, Jiránek stayed in Russia. In July 2011, he signed a two-year contract with Terek Grozny. One of his most memorable moments there was scoring a goal from 45 yards away in a game against Kuban Krasnodar.
Later, he joined another Russian club, Tom Tomsk, where he played from 2013 to 2016.
Playing in England
On August 31, 2010, Jiránek joined Birmingham City in the English Premier League. He signed a one-year deal with the club.
One of his biggest achievements came when he helped Birmingham City win the League Cup Final. They played against the famous club Arsenal at Wembley Stadium and won 2–1. Jiránek was a starter in this important match. After the season, Birmingham was relegated from the Premier League, and Jiránek decided to leave the club.
Return to the Czech Republic
Jiránek returned to his home country to finish his career. He played for Příbram during the 2016–2017 season. After that, he joined Dukla Prague for the 2017–2018 season before retiring from professional football.
International Career
Jiránek had a successful career playing for his country. He started with the Czech Republic's under-21 team and helped them win the UEFA U-21 Championship in 2002.
That same year, he played his first game for the senior national team against Poland. He was part of the team for Euro 2004, where he played in four matches before an injury kept him out of the semi-final. He was also chosen for the 2006 World Cup squad but did not play in any of the final tournament games.
His international career was affected in 2007 after he was fined for breaking team rules after a match against Germany. He played his last of 31 games for the national team in March 2007.
