Martinez is a small community in eastern Bexar County, Texas, in the United States. It's called an unincorporated community because it doesn't have its own local government like a city does. In 1990, about 75 people lived there. Martinez is part of the larger Greater San Antonio area.
History of Martinez
Martinez began as a train station in 1877. It was a stop on the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway.
In 1910, about 50 people lived in Martinez. There was also a store run by W.C. Schlather. By 1940, the population was still around 50, but three more businesses had opened.
The community grew slowly over the years. By 1990, the population reached 75 residents. Martinez was still shown on county maps in 2000.
Where is Martinez Located?
Martinez is found near the town of Converse. It is located where two roads meet: Farm to Market Road 1346 and Farm to Market Road 1516. This spot is about ten miles east of Downtown San Antonio.
Two creeks, Martinez Creek and Calaveras Creek, flow through the community.
Education in Martinez
Students in Martinez attend schools in the East Central Independent School District. Young children from the community go to Sinclair Elementary School, which is located in San Antonio.
