Marvin Menzies has had a long and successful career in college basketball. He started as an assistant coach at various colleges before becoming a head coach.
Early Coaching Years
Menzies began his college coaching career as an assistant. He worked at places like Santa Monica College, Sacramento State, San Diego State, and USC. These early experiences helped him learn a lot about coaching basketball teams.
First Head Coaching Role
His first chance to be a head coach at a four-year university came in 2007. He was hired by New Mexico State. Before this, he had been an assistant coach at Louisville for two years. He actually took over the New Mexico State job from his former boss at Louisville, Reggie Theus.

They won the WAC regular season championship three times (in 2008, 2015, and 2016). They also won the WAC tournament five times in a row, from 2010 to 2015. Winning the tournament meant they got to play in the NCAA Division I Tournament several times. In 2015, he was named the WAC Coach of the Year. Overall, his record at New Mexico State was 198 wins and 111 losses.
Coaching at UNLV
After his successful run at New Mexico State, Menzies became the head coach at UNLV on April 17, 2016. He coached the UNLV Runnin' Rebels for three seasons, from 2016 to 2019. During his time there, the team had an overall record of 48 wins and 48 losses. He left UNLV in March 2019.

As of July 2025, he continues to coach the Kansas City Roos.
