Mary Bebe Anderson (born April 3, 1918 – died April 6, 2014) was an American actress. She appeared in many films and TV shows between 1939 and 1965. She is best known for her role in the famous movie Gone With the Wind. She also had a main role in Alfred Hitchcock's 1944 film Lifeboat.

Early Life and Family
Mary Anderson was born and grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. She went to Howard College, which is now called Samford University.
Her younger brother, James Anderson (1921–1969), was also an actor. He was known for playing Bob Ewell in the movie To Kill a Mockingbird (1962). Mary and James acted together in one film, Hunt the Man Down, in 1951.
Acting Career Highlights
Mary Anderson started her film career with two small roles that were not credited. Her first important movie part was in Gone With the Wind (1939). She was one of 1,400 actresses who tried out for the role of Scarlett O'Hara. Even though she didn't get that part, she was chosen to play Maybelle Merriwether.

In 1944, she played Alice, a nurse, in the Alfred Hitchcock film Lifeboat. This movie had only ten characters, and Mary was one of them. She stopped making films in the early 1950s. After that, she sometimes acted on television. For example, she played Catherine Harrington on the show Peyton Place in 1964. She also appeared in an episode of Perry Mason in 1958.
Personal Life
Mary Anderson was married twice. Her first marriage was to Leonard M. Behrens from 1940 to 1950. Her second marriage was to cinematographer Leon Shamroy. They were married from 1953 until he passed away in 1974. They had one child, Anderson Alexander Shamroy, who sadly passed away young in 1956.
Mary Anderson passed away on April 6, 2014, in Burbank, California. She was 96 years old, and her death happened just three days after her birthday.
