Mary Remington was a British painter who lived from 1910 to 2003. She created many artworks using oil paints. Her paintings were shown in galleries and art clubs across England.
Early Life and Education
Mary Remington was born in 1910 in a town called Reigate in Surrey, England. She loved art from a young age. Mary went to the Redhill School of Art to begin her studies.
She was very good at art, and her talent was noticed. Mary won a special scholarship to attend the Royal College of Art in London. This is a very famous art school. She studied there from 1930 to 1933.
After her time in London, Mary continued to learn and improve her skills. She traveled to Paris, France, to study at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. This academy was another important place for artists to train.
Becoming a Professional Artist
Throughout her career, Mary Remington became a well-known artist. She showed her oil paintings and other artworks in many important places. These included the Royal Academy in London. The Royal Academy is a very old and respected art institution.
She also exhibited her work with other famous groups. These included the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. Mary was also a part of the New English Art Club, often called NEAC.
Her talent was recognized by these art clubs. In 1954, she was elected as a member of the NEAC. Later, in 1962, she became a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. Being elected to these groups showed how respected she was as an artist.
Mary had her own art studio in Sutton, which is in south London. She continued to paint and create art there. She passed away in 2003 in Carshalton, England.
