School History
Founding and Early Years
In 1938, a group of religious women called the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity bought land in northwest Denver. They wanted to build a home for their religious community there. They named this new property Marycrest.
Later, in 1958, the sisters decided to open a high school. They changed their training center for new members into Marycrest High School.
Growth and Closure
Marycrest High School became quite popular. In the 1970s, about 200 students attended the school. It was seen as a similar school for girls, much like the nearby Regis Jesuit High School was for boys.
However, Marycrest High School eventually closed its doors in 1988.
After the School Closed
After the school closed, its buildings were used by the Tennyson Center for Children. This organization helps children in need.
In 1996, the old school building was taken down. New homes for older adults were built on the property instead.
