Maryna Anatoliivna Poroshenko (Ukrainian: Марина Анатоліївна Порошенко, born 1 February 1962) is a Ukrainian doctor who was the First Lady of Ukraine from 2014 to 2019. She is married to Petro Poroshenko, who was the President of Ukraine during that time. After her husband's time as president ended, Maryna became a local politician in Kyiv.

About Maryna Poroshenko

Maryna Poroshenko was born in 1962 in Kyiv, which was then part of the Soviet Union. Her birth name was Maryna Perevedentseva. Her father, Anatoly, was a Deputy Minister of Health in Ukraine. Her mother, Lyudmyla, worked at a factory called Kyiv Arsenal.

Education and Early Life

Maryna studied to become a heart doctor (cardiologist) at the Bogomolets National Medical University. While she was a student, she met Petro Poroshenko. They got married in 1984.

She worked as a cardiologist at a hospital until her first son was born. After that, she focused on raising her family. She also studied fine arts and graduated from the National Academy of Government Managerial Staff of Culture and Arts in 2007.

Public Role as First Lady

When her husband became president in 2014, Maryna Poroshenko became the First Lady of Ukraine. She said she wanted to help with social and cultural issues in the country.

In June 2014, she met with Iryna Herashchenko, who was working on a peace plan for Eastern Ukraine. They talked about how to help people in that region. From 2018 to 2019, Maryna was the head of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation. This organization helps support Ukrainian culture and arts.

Political Career After Presidency

In 2020, Maryna Poroshenko ran for a seat on the Kyiv City Council. She was the top candidate on the list for the European Solidarity party. This party is led by her husband, Petro Poroshenko.

The European Solidarity party won 31 seats on the Kyiv City Council in that election. Maryna Poroshenko became a member of the council.

Maryna Poroshenko's Family

Maryna and Petro Poroshenko have four children together. Their oldest son is Oleksiy, born in 1985. They have twin daughters, Yevheniia and Oleksandra, born in 2000. Their youngest son, Mykhailo, was born in 2001.

The family lives in their private home in a historic area called Koncha-Zaspa. Their son, Oleksiy, has also been involved in politics. He was a representative in the regional parliament of Vinnytsia Oblast. In November 2014, he became a People's Deputy of Ukraine, which means he was a member of the national parliament.

Former Ukrainian president Viktor Yushchenko is the godfather to their children.
