Maryna Anatoliyvna Poroshenko (born February 1, 1962) is a Ukrainian cardiologist and a public figure. She was the First Lady of Ukraine from 2014 to 2019. This means she was the wife of the country's president during his time in office. She is married to Petro Poroshenko, who was the President of Ukraine. After her husband's time as president ended, Maryna Poroshenko became involved in local politics. In 2020, she was elected to the Kyiv City Council, which is like the city's local government.

About Maryna Poroshenko
Early Life and Education
Maryna Poroshenko was born as Maryna Perevedentseva in 1962 in Kyiv, which was then part of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. Her father, Anatoly, worked as a Deputy Minister of Health for the Ukrainian SSR. Her mother, Lyudmyla, worked at a place called Kyiv Arsenal.
Maryna studied to become a doctor at the Bogomolets National Medical University. While she was there, she met Petro Poroshenko. They got married in 1984. After becoming a doctor, she worked as a cardiologist, which is a heart doctor, at a hospital in Kyiv. However, after her first son was born, she decided to focus on raising her family.
In 2007, Maryna also earned a degree in fine arts from the National Academy of Government Managerial Staff of Culture and Arts.
Role as First Lady
When her husband, Petro Poroshenko, became President of Ukraine in 2014, Maryna became the First Lady. In this role, she said she wanted to help with social and cultural issues in Ukraine. She met with other important people to talk about how to help people, especially those in Eastern Ukraine who were facing difficulties.
From 2018 to 2019, she was the head of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation. This organization helps support and develop Ukrainian culture.
Later Political Work
After her husband's presidency ended in 2019, Maryna Poroshenko decided to get involved in local politics. In the 2020 local election for Kyiv, she was a candidate for the Kyiv City Council. She was part of the European Solidarity party, which her husband leads. The European Solidarity party won 31 seats in the Kyiv City Council in that election, and Maryna Poroshenko was elected as a council member.
Her Family
Maryna and Petro Poroshenko have four children together. Their oldest son is Olexiy, born in 1985. They also have twin daughters, Yevheniia and Oleksandra, born in 2000, and another son, Mykhailo, born in 2001. The family lives in their home in a historic area called Koncha-Zaspa.
Their son, Oleksiy, has also been involved in politics. He was a representative in the regional parliament for the Vinnytsia Oblast area. In November 2014, he became a People's Deputy of Ukraine, which means he was elected to the national parliament.
A former Ukrainian president, Viktor Yushchenko, is the godfather to their children.
