The Bogomolets National Medical University (often called NMU) is a famous medical school. It was started in 1841 in Kyiv, which is now the capital of Ukraine. A Russian ruler named Nicolas I helped create it.
The university is named after a well-known scientist, Oleksandr Bogomolets, who studied how the body works. NMU teaches over 10,000 students, including about 1,300 students from many different countries. Around 1,200 teachers work at the university.
Bogomolets National Medical University is one of the top medical schools in Ukraine. Its degrees are accepted by important groups like the WHO. This means that doctors who graduate from NMU can work in many places around the world. History of the University
How Bogomolets National Medical University Started
Bogomolets National Medical University began as a small group of students and teachers. They were part of the medical department at St. Volodymyr University in 1841. In 1840, a special order was signed to create a medical department there.
Classes officially started on September 23, 1841. At first, 29 students joined the first year of studies. The medical department at St. Vladimir University had 10 different teaching areas. By 1844, three special clinics were opened. These clinics helped students learn about treating illnesses, performing surgeries, and helping with childbirth.
