The Marín Dolls Museum-Factory (also known as Fábrica-Museo Muñecas Marín) is a special place in Chiclana de la Frontera, a town in southwestern Spain. It is unique because it is both a museum and a factory where beautiful dolls are made!

The factory was started in 1928 by a talented artist named José Marín Verdugo. His dolls became very popular. By the middle of the 20th century, they were sold all over Spain and even in other European countries.

José Marín Verdugo and his factory received important awards. In 1976, the Spanish government gave him the Medal of Merit of Labor. The factory also won the First World Doll Award in Krakow, Poland. Today, the factory is run by Ana Marín, José's daughter, continuing the family tradition.

The Doll Museum

The museum part of Marín Dolls opened in 1997. Its main goal is to show off all the different types of dolls that the factory has created over the years.

When you visit the museum, you can learn about the history of the factory. You will see a huge collection of handmade dolls. There are also old molds and original sculptures used to create these unique dolls. The museum is open on weekdays.

The Doll Factory

Making dolls at the Chiclana factory has always been a job mostly done by women. They use traditional methods to create each doll by hand.

The first dolls made here wore typical flamenco outfits from Andalusia. Later, the factory started making dolls dressed in costumes from other Spanish regions. For example, they made dolls wearing the chulapa costume from Madrid. They also created dolls with the fallas costume from the Valencian region.

Since it began, the factory has shown how dolls are traditionally made. This includes how their hair is styled, how their makeup is applied, and how their facial expressions are created. The dolls are easy to spot because of their delicate features and happy, smiling faces. This factory has been an important part of the economy in Andalusia for a long time.
