Masaaki Yanagishita (born January 1, 1960) is a famous Japanese football player and manager. He played as a defender and later became a successful coach for several teams in Japan.

Playing Career: A Strong Defender

Masaaki Yanagishita was born in Hamamatsu, Japan. He played as a central defender, which means he was a key player in stopping the other team from scoring goals.

Playing for Yamaha Motors

From 1982 to 1992, Yanagishita played for his local club, Yamaha Motors. This team later became known as Júbilo Iwata. He played in 135 league games for them. During his time, Yamaha Motors had many successful years. He helped them win the Japan Soccer League in the 1987-88 season. He also helped them win the Emperor's Cup in 1982. He stopped playing professional football in 1992.

Playing for Japan's Youth Team

In 1979, Masaaki Yanagishita was chosen to play for the Japan national under-20 football team. This team played in the 1979 FIFA World Youth Championship. This big tournament was held in Japan that year. He played in three games during this championship.

Coaching Career: Leading Teams to Victory

After he stopped playing, Yanagishita started his coaching career. He began at his old club, Yamaha Motors, in 1993.

Early Coaching Days at Júbilo Iwata

In 2004, Yanagishita moved to coach Consadole Sapporo. This team was in the J2 League, which is the second division of Japanese football. He coached them until the end of the 2006 season.

Return to Júbilo Iwata

He returned to Júbilo Iwata as an assistant coach in 2007. In 2009, he became the manager again. Even though the team had some tough times in the J1 League, they won the 2010 J.League Cup. This was another important trophy for the club. He left Júbilo Iwata at the end of 2011.

Coaching Albirex Niigata

In June 2012, he took over as manager for Albirex Niigata. The team was struggling, but he helped them improve. They managed to stay in the J1 League. He coached Albirex Niigata until the end of the 2015 season.

Coaching Zweigen Kanazawa

In 2017, Masaaki Yanagishita became the manager for Zweigen Kanazawa. This team was also in the J2 League at the time. He coached them until 2023.

Assistant Coach at Tochigi SC

In 2024, he joined Tochigi SC as an assistant coach.
