Discover Massee Lane Gardens
A Garden's Story
The gardens began in the 1930s. A man named David C. Strother created them. He grew them around his farm house. In 1966, he gave his land to the American Camellia Society. This group loves and studies camellias. Their main building was finished in 1968. It was named after Mr. Strother.
In 1969, a special greenhouse was built. It is called the T. J. Smith Memorial Greenhouse. This greenhouse now holds about 200 camellia plants.

Today, Massee Lane Gardens has over 1,000 different types of camellia flowers. But there's more to see than just camellias!
The Camellia Collection
The gardens are a paradise for camellia lovers. You can explore many paths. Each path shows off different kinds of these beautiful flowers. Signs help you learn about each plant.
Special Gardens to Explore
- Abendroth Japanese Garden: This peaceful garden has a tea house and a pond. The pond is home to colorful koi fish.
- Environmental Garden: Here, you can see plants that grow naturally in the southeastern United States.
- Scheibert Rose Garden: This garden is filled with over 150 different types of roses.
- You will also find other lovely plants. These include azaleas, chrysanthemums, daffodils, daphnes, and daylilies.
The Museum and Visitor Center
The Annabelle Lundy Fetterman Educational Museum is inside the visitor center. It has a large collection of Boehm porcelain art. These are beautiful sculptures made of porcelain.
The visitor center also offers other things. You can watch a slide show about the gardens. There is a gift shop where you can buy souvenirs. It also has an auditorium and a reception room.
