The fourth season of MasterChef Canada was a cooking competition TV show. It first aired in Canada on March 3, 2017, on CTV, and the final episode was on June 1, 2017. If you were in the United States, you could watch this season on The Cooking Channel starting October 10, 2017.

In the exciting finale, Trevor Connie was announced as the winner of the entire season! Trevor even came back as a special guest in an episode of Season 5. Some other contestants from this season also returned for a special competition called MasterChef Canada: Back to Win. These included Dorothea "Thea" VanHerwaarden, who finished second, Mai Nguyen, who finished fourth, and Barrie McConachie, who finished third. Barrie had to leave early in Back to Win due to an injury but later returned to the show.

Season 4 Episodes: A Quick Look

Each episode of MasterChef Canada Season 4 brought new and exciting cooking challenges! Here's a summary of what happened in each one.

Episode 1: Special Delivery

  • Air Date: March 2, 2017
  • What Happened: The Top 24 cooks got a surprise delivery in their hometowns. They had to make a rice dish in 20 minutes. The best 12 cooks earned their aprons. The remaining 12 then chose a judge's pantry to cook from, and four more cooks earned their aprons, completing the Top 12.

Episode 2: Home On the Range

  • Air Date: March 9, 2017
  • Mystery Box: The cooks found a piece of their own kitchen equipment in the mystery box. Aaron, Miranda, and Trevor made the best dishes, and Trevor won.
  • Elimination Test: Trevor, as the winner, got to pick stone fruits as the main ingredient. He also decided who would make savory or sweet dishes and saved all the men from elimination. Justine and Miranda made the best dishes. Alice was eliminated.

Episode 3: True Patriot Love

  • Air Date: March 16, 2017
  • Team Challenge: The cooks made a buffet lunch for new Canadian citizens. They had to create a curry, a noodle dish (one vegetarian), and a salad. Justine's Red Team won against Miranda's White Team.
  • Pressure Test: The White Team had to cook squid ink noodles with a soft-boiled egg. Miranda saved herself. Thea made the best dish and was safe. Kimberly was eliminated because her dish had the most problems.

Episode 4: The Blind Leading the Blind

  • Air Date: March 23, 2017
  • Team Challenge: The Top 10 cooks worked in pairs to recreate a seven-layer birthday cake for Canada's 150th birthday. Justine and Matt made the best cake.
  • Elimination Test: Season 3 winner Mary Berg returned! Justine and Matt were safe. The other cooks had to elevate Mary's favorite comfort food: tuna casserole. Aaron, Alisha, and Mai made the best dishes. Jordan was eliminated.

Episode 5: Burger for Bikers

  • Air Date: March 30, 2017
  • Team Challenge: The Top 9 cooks formed three teams to make gourmet burgers and fries for motorcycle riders. Mai's Green Team won.
  • Pressure Test: The losing teams faced a difficult challenge: making a classic French dessert called Mille-feuille. Aaron and Barrie were saved by their teams. Thea and Matt made the best desserts. Alisha was eliminated because her pastry was poorly made.

Episode 6: Jamie in the House

  • Air Date: April 6, 2017
  • Mystery Box: The theme was Italian and Mediterranean food. Famous Chef Jamie Oliver visited! The winner's dish would be on the menu at Jamie's Italian Canada. Barrie, Trevor, and Thea made the best dishes, and Thea won.
  • Elimination Test: The cooks had to recreate a high-end Japanese bento box in a tag team challenge. Thea was safe and chose Mai to be safe too. Trevor and Barrie made the best dish. Justine and Matt were both eliminated because the judges couldn't decide who performed worse.

Episode 7: Egg Showdown!

  • Air Date: April 13, 2017
  • Skills Test: Alice returned to the competition after winning a special challenge! The 7 cooks faced a series of egg-focused pressure tests.
    • Part 1: They made Scotch egg. Barrie, Aaron, and Thea were safe.
    • Part 2: Alice, Miranda, Mai, and Trevor made Eggs Benedict. Mai and Trevor made the best dishes.
    • Part 3: Alice and Miranda faced the final test: making a cheese soufflé. Miranda's soufflé was better, and Alice was eliminated again.

Episode 8: Auberge Anniversary

  • Air Date: April 27, 2017
  • Team Challenge: The Top 6 cooks took over a real restaurant kitchen! Barrie and Aaron were team captains. Barrie's Red Team won by preparing two appetizers and two main courses.
  • Pressure Test: Aaron, Thea, and Miranda had 45 minutes to create a Moroccan-inspired Vegetable Tajine with herbed couscous. Miranda made the best dish and was safe. Aaron was eliminated because his dish had too many strong spices.

Episode 9: Take Five

  • Air Date: May 4, 2017
  • Mystery Box: The Top 5 cooks had to make a salmon dish using one of the judges' favorite techniques: glazed, encrusted, or poached. Miranda, Trevor, and Barrie made the best dishes, and Miranda won.
  • Elimination Test: The cooks had to make a dish using only five ingredients. Miranda, as the winner, could swap the other cooks' ingredient baskets. Barrie made the best dish. Miranda was eliminated because her flank steak was raw.

Episode 10: Harvest Family Dinner

  • Air Date: May 11, 2017
  • Team Challenge: The Top 4 cooks went to an orchard and were surprised by their families! They had to make an elegant family dinner using autumn harvest ingredients. Barrie chose Trevor as his partner, forming the Red Team. Mai and Thea formed the Blue Team. Barrie and Trevor won, securing their spots in the Top 3.
  • Pressure Test: Mai and Thea faced the final pressure test of the season. They had 60 minutes to recreate a complex tropical dessert called the Hawaiian Mountain Cloud. Thea's dessert was better, and Mai was eliminated.

Episode 11: Sweet Francaise

  • Air Date: May 25, 2017
  • Individual Challenge: Trevor, Barrie, and Thea had two hours to make a variety of pastries for the judges and 45 guests, including 11 pastry chefs. Barrie was voted the winner.
  • Elimination Test: Barrie chose wagyu beef for himself, Nagano pork for Thea, and Chanticler chicken for Trevor. They had to showcase their protein in three different ways. Trevor advanced to the finale. Barrie was eliminated because his meat was undercooked, sending Thea to the finale.

Episode 12: Season 4 Finale

  • Air Date: June 1, 2017
  • Finale: Trevor and Thea competed for the MasterChef Canada title! They had three hours to prepare a three-course meal: an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert.
    • Appetizer: Thea made a Mexican street corn panna cotta. Trevor made an octopus and chips appetizer.
    • Entree: Trevor cooked a braised lamb shank. Thea presented a braised pork belly tamale.
    • Dessert: Thea created a coffee-inspired dessert. Trevor served a "fallen ice cream cone" with mint chocolate gelato.
  • Winner: Trevor Connie was declared the winner of MasterChef Canada Season 4!
