The fifth season of MasterChef Canada was a super exciting cooking competition! It aired in Canada on CTV from April 3 to June 19, 2018. The show was filmed in the fall of 2017.
A talented 19-year-old from Sherwood Park, named Beccy Stables, won the whole competition! She took home the special trophy, the title of MasterChef Canada, and a huge $100,000 prize. Beccy made history as the youngest person ever to win MasterChef Canada. She was also the youngest contestant to compete on the show. After her big win, Beccy moved to Kelowna, British Columbia. She now runs her own baking website called dessertclub. She even came back as a guest star in Season 6 of the show!
This season of MasterChef Canada also aired in India on TLC starting June 26, 2018. Some contestants from this season, like Andrew "Andy" Hay (who came in second), Marissa Leon-John (seventh place), and Jennifer "Jen" Jenkins (eighth place), later returned for a special season called MasterChef Canada: Back to Win.

The season kicked off with 21 home cooks hoping to earn a spot in the MasterChef kitchen. The judges surprised them in their hometowns with a secret ingredient. They had to create a dish to show off their skills. Beccy, Jonathan, and Andy were among the first to earn their aprons. In the end, only 12 cooks made it into the competition.

The first Mystery Box Challenge featured coffee! Cooks had to make either a savory or sweet dish using it. Kaegan won this challenge, which gave him a big advantage. In the Elimination Test, contestants had to shop for ingredients with a limited budget or a luxury budget. Melissa was the first contestant eliminated.

For their first Team Challenge, the cooks made a meal for 101 volunteers at a Habitat for Humanity building site. The Red team, which included Beccy, won! The Blue team faced a Pressure Test where they had to recreate a fancy Black Forest cake. Kaegan was eliminated after struggling with his cake.

In the next Mystery Box, cooks had to make a home-inspired dish in just 30 minutes. Michael G. won this challenge. For the Elimination Test, they cooked with different forms of mushrooms (dried, canned, or fresh). Reem was eliminated from the competition.

The second Team Challenge was at a dog park, where teams made donuts for dog owners! The Green team (Beccy, Marissa, Jonathan) won. The losing teams faced a Pressure Test to make a Russian salmon coulibiac. Michael V. was eliminated. After this episode, a special "Redemption" competition began online for eliminated cooks.

Beccy, Andy, and Michael G. earned spots in the semifinals, while Eugene and Nadia were eliminated in a double elimination.

Andy and Michael G. faced a final Pressure Test to recreate three classic Canadian desserts. Andy won the last spot in the finale, sending Michael G. home.

In the grand finale, Beccy and Andy battled it out! They had to create a three-course meal (appetizer, entrée, and dessert) in just three hours. Beccy served a quail Scotch egg, rabbit two ways, and a "Fallen apple" panna cotta. Andy made a Halifax donair salad, an elevated hodge-podge, and a Newfoundland touton. The judges loved Beccy's creative and well-made dishes, making her the youngest MasterChef Canada winner!
