Matías Vecino Falero (born on August 24, 1991) is a professional football player from Uruguay. He plays as a central midfielder or a defensive midfielder. Currently, he plays for the Serie A club Lazio.

Matías Vecino: A Football Star
His Early Football Journey
Matías Vecino started his professional football career in 2010. His first team was Central Español. After playing there for a year, he moved to Nacional for the 2011–12 season.
Playing for Fiorentina
In January 2013, Vecino joined Fiorentina, a team in Italy's top league, Serie A. He signed a four-year contract. The transfer was made official in August 2013.
Matías played his first game for Fiorentina on September 26, 2013. This was also his first game in Serie A. He didn't play much in his first season. Because of this, he was loaned out to another Serie A team, Cagliari, until the end of the season.
After his time at Cagliari, Vecino spent the 2014–15 season on loan at Empoli. In mid-2015, he returned to Fiorentina. He became a regular player for the first team. In 2016, he signed a new five-year contract with the club.
Time at Inter Milan
On July 31, 2017, Vecino was allowed to have a medical check-up with Inter Milan. This was the final step for his transfer to the club. The transfer was officially completed on August 2, and Vecino signed a contract until June 2021.
He was given the number 11 jersey. Matías played his first game for Inter on August 20. It was the first match of the 2017–18 Serie A season against his old team, Fiorentina. Inter won the game 3–0. Vecino scored his first goal for Inter just six days later. He scored the third goal in a 3–1 away win against Roma. This was Inter's first win at the Stadio Olimpico against Roma in nine years.
Champions League Hero
On May 20, 2018, Vecino scored the winning goal against Lazio. Inter won the match 3–2. This victory was very important because it helped Inter return to the UEFA Champions League. They had not played in the Champions League for six years.
On September 18, 2018, he scored another important goal. This time, it was an injury-time winning goal against Tottenham Hotspur. Inter won 2–1 in a UEFA Champions League match.
Joining Lazio
On August 1, 2022, Matías Vecino joined Lazio. He moved on a free transfer, meaning Lazio did not have to pay a fee for him. He signed a three-year contract with the club.
Representing Uruguay
Matías Vecino was born in Canelones, Uruguay. His family has Italian roots, so he could have played for either Uruguay or Italy. He played for the Uruguay national under-20 football team. He played in the 2011 South American Youth Championship and the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Playing for the National Team
He scored the goal that helped Uruguay qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Vecino made his debut for the Uruguay senior team on March 25, 2016, against Brazil.
