Early Life and High School Football
Matt Hazel grew up in North Augusta, South Carolina. He went to North Augusta High School. During his senior year, he was an amazing player. He caught 75 passes for 1,193 yards. He also scored 18 touchdowns. His skills helped his team reach the second round of the playoffs.
College Football Career
Matt played college football for the Coastal Carolina University from 2010 to 2013. He was a key player for their team.
Freshman and Sophomore Years
In 2010, as a freshman, Matt played in 11 games. He caught 20 passes for 276 yards. He also scored five touchdowns. The next year, in 2011, he started nine games. He had 32 catches for 488 yards and six touchdowns.
Junior and Senior Years
Matt started all 13 games in 2012. He caught 61 passes for 799 yards. He scored eight touchdowns that season. Because of his great performance, he was named a first-team All-Big South player. In 2013, his senior year, he played in all 14 games. He caught 70 passes for 990 yards and nine touchdowns. He earned first-team All-Big South honors again.
Setting Records at Coastal Carolina
Matt set several records at Coastal Carolina University. He holds the record for most career receptions with 183. His 70 catches in 2013 are also a school record for a single season. He ranks second in school history for career receiving yards (2,553). He is also second for career receiving touchdowns with 28. Matt was one of only three players from his school to play in the East-West Shrine Game. This is a special game for top college football players.
Professional Football Journey
Matt Hazel played for several teams during his professional career. He spent time with teams in the NFL and even played in Canada and Italy.
Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins picked Matt in the 2014 NFL draft. He was the 190th player chosen overall. He was first signed to their practice squad. Later, he was moved to the main team roster in December 2014. He stayed with the Dolphins until August 2016.
Buffalo Bills
In September 2016, Matt joined the Buffalo Bills' practice squad. He was with them for about a month before being released.
Washington Redskins
