Matthew Waterhouse (born 19 December 1961) is an English actor and writer. He is most famous for playing the character Adric in the popular BBC science fiction TV show Doctor Who. He was on the show from 1980 to 1982.

Early Life and Interests

Matthew Waterhouse was born in Hertford, England. He grew up in Haywards Heath, Sussex. He went to St. Wilfrid's Primary School and Shoreham Grammar School. Matthew was a big fan of Doctor Who when he was younger. He even said he was "obsessed" with the show.

Matthew Waterhouse in Doctor Who

Matthew Waterhouse played Adric, a friend to the Doctor. He worked with both Tom Baker and Peter Davison's Doctors. Matthew was the youngest actor to play a companion on Doctor Who. This was only his second acting job. Before Doctor Who, he played a schoolboy in a TV show called To Serve Them All My Days. He found out he got the role of Adric just before filming that show.

Matthew has also helped with Doctor Who DVD releases. He recorded audio commentaries for episodes like Earthshock and The Visitation. He also talked about his time on the show in a special video called The Boy With the Golden Star. This video is on the Warriors' Gate DVD.

He has read many Doctor Who audiobooks. These include stories like The Visitation and Full Circle. In 2013, a company called Big Finish Productions announced that Matthew would return to play Adric in new audio plays. He has been in many of these stories since 2014. He also appeared in The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot, a special comedy for the show's 50th anniversary in 2013.

Other Acting Roles

After joining Doctor Who, Matthew Waterhouse appeared on other TV shows. These included Saturday Night at the Mill and Top of the Pops. He also appeared on Peter Davison's This Is Your Life. His only movie role was in the 1986 thriller The Killing Edge.

In 1996, he was in a science fiction pilot called Ghostlands. He played a character named Tom. He acted alongside Sylvester McCoy, who also played the Seventh Doctor.

Matthew has performed in many plays in the UK. He has been in Shakespeare plays like A Midsummer Night's Dream (as Puck) and Hamlet (as the main character). He also acted in plays such as The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Peter Pan. He wrote and performed his own one-man show called Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

He has also been in audio stories for Dark Shadows. He played John Cunningham in The Creeping Fog. He also appeared in Bloodlust and Blood & Fire.

Matthew Waterhouse's Books

In 2006, Matthew Waterhouse published his first novel, Fates, Flowers: A Comedy of New York. He later released more books, including Vanitas: A Comedy of New York and his memoir, Blue Box Boy. A fourth book, Precious Liars, came out in 2013. All his books have been republished, and he released a short story collection called Sugar in 2016. Matthew has also recorded audio versions of all his books.

He has also written audio stories for Dark Shadows, like Old Acquaintance. He also wrote two Doctor Who Audio Novels, Watchers and Prisoners of London.
