Early Life

Matthias Schweighöfer was born in Anklam, a town in what was then East Germany. His parents were both actors, so he grew up around movies and plays. He went to a famous acting school in Berlin but left after one year. Even so, he started working with well-known directors very early in his career.

Working with big stars like Tom Cruise helped Matthias become known around the world. This also gave him chances to act in more English-speaking roles.

In 2009, Matthias started his own fashion brand called German Garment. He created it with TV presenter Joko Winterscheidt.

Directing Movies

Matthias Schweighöfer also directs movies! In 2010, he directed his first romantic comedy called What a Man. He followed this with his second movie, Break Up Man, in 2013.

In 2017, he directed, produced, and starred in You Are Wanted. This was the first TV series from Amazon Studios that was not in English.

International Success

In 2021, Matthias became even more famous worldwide. He appeared in the Netflix film Army of the Dead, directed by Zack Snyder. He played a character named Ludwig Dieter. He liked the character so much that he played him again in the prequel film, Army of Thieves. Matthias also directed Army of Thieves himself!

In 2023, he played the physicist Werner Heisenberg in the movie Oppenheimer. This film was directed by Christopher Nolan. He also appeared in the movie Heart of Stone in the same year.

Matthias also played real-life music producer Frank Farian in the movie Girl You Know It's True. This film is about the pop duo Milli Vanilli.
