Matthias Schweighöfer (born March 11, 1981) is a German actor and filmmaker. He is known for his work in many German and American movies. You might know him best as Ludwig Dieter from the Netflix films Army of the Dead and Army of Thieves. He also directed Army of Thieves!

Early Life
Matthias Schweighöfer was born in Anklam, a town in what was then East Germany. His parents were both actors, so he grew up around movies and plays. He went to a famous acting school in Berlin but left after one year. Even so, he started working with well-known directors very early in his career.
Becoming a Star
Matthias got his first role in a feature film called Changing Skins in 1997. After that, he appeared in many other movies. Some of these include Soloalbum (2003) and Off Beat (2004).
In 2008, Matthias played Lieutenant Franz Herber in the movie Valkyrie. This film was about a real-life plan to stop Adolf Hitler during World War II. Working with big stars like Tom Cruise helped Matthias become known around the world. This also gave him chances to act in more English-speaking roles.
In 2009, Matthias started his own fashion brand called German Garment. He created it with TV presenter Joko Winterscheidt.
Directing Movies
Matthias Schweighöfer also directs movies! In 2010, he directed his first romantic comedy called What a Man. He followed this with his second movie, Break Up Man, in 2013.
In 2017, he directed, produced, and starred in You Are Wanted. This was the first TV series from Amazon Studios that was not in English.
International Success
In 2021, Matthias became even more famous worldwide. He appeared in the Netflix film Army of the Dead, directed by Zack Snyder. He played a character named Ludwig Dieter. He liked the character so much that he played him again in the prequel film, Army of Thieves. Matthias also directed Army of Thieves himself!
In 2023, he played the physicist Werner Heisenberg in the movie Oppenheimer. This film was directed by Christopher Nolan. He also appeared in the movie Heart of Stone in the same year.
Matthias also played real-life music producer Frank Farian in the movie Girl You Know It's True. This film is about the pop duo Milli Vanilli.
Personal Life
Matthias Schweighöfer lives in Berlin. He has two children, a daughter born in 2009 and a son born in 2014. Since 2019, he has been in a relationship with actress Ruby O. Fee. She was also his co-star in Army of Thieves.
