Olof Mattias Jonsson (born 16 January 1974) is a Swedish former professional footballer. He played as a winger, which is a player who usually plays on the sides of the field. Mattias started his career in the early 1990s in Sweden. He then played for several clubs in different countries. These included Helsingborgs IF and Djurgårdens IF in Sweden, Brøndby IF in Denmark, and Norwich City in England.
Mattias Jonson also played for the Swedish national team from 1996 to 2006. He played in 57 games and scored nine goals for his country. He represented Sweden in major tournaments like the 2002 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro 2004, and the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He retired from playing football in 2011.

Mattias Jonson's Club Career
Starting Out in Sweden
Mattias Jonson was born in Kumla, Sweden. He began playing youth football for local clubs like IFK Kumla and Karlslunds IF. In 1992, he joined Örebro SK. There, he made his first appearance as a senior player in the top Swedish league, Allsvenskan.
In 1996, Mattias moved to another team in the same league, Helsingborgs IF. He helped Helsingborg win the 1999 Allsvenskan championship. This was a big achievement for the club. He left Helsingborg at the end of the 1999 season.
Playing in Denmark with Brøndby
After his time in Sweden, Mattias Jonson moved to Denmark. He joined the Danish club Brøndby IF in their top league, the Danish Superliga. Brøndby's new manager, Åge Hareide, brought him to the team.
Mattias first played as a striker, a player who focuses on scoring goals. Later, he became a left-sided winger, which was his main position. He showed he was very good at scoring goals for Brøndby.
One memorable moment was in the 2001–02 UEFA Cup tournament. Brøndby had lost their first game against a Croatian club. In the next game, Mattias scored three goals, which is called a hat-trick. This helped Brøndby win 5–0 and move forward in the tournament. He also scored another hat-trick in a league game in April 2002. That season, he helped Brøndby win the 2001–02 Superliga championship.
In the 2002–03 season, Mattias was Brøndby's top scorer in the league with 11 goals. He also helped the club win the Danish Cup in 2003.
Time in England with Norwich City
After the 2004 European Championship, Mattias decided to leave Brøndby. In August 2004, he moved to England. He joined Norwich City, a team that had just been promoted to the Premier League. The Premier League is the highest level of football in England.
Mattias found it challenging to make a big impact in the Premier League. He stayed with Norwich for one season before moving back to Sweden.
Coming Back to Sweden
In 2005, Mattias Jonson returned to Sweden. He joined Djurgårdens IF. In his first season with Djurgården, he helped the team win "the Double." This means they won both the 2005 Allsvenskan league title and the Svenska Cupen (Swedish Cup) trophy in the same year.
Mattias finished his football career after the 2011 season. His last game was on 23 October 2011.
Mattias Jonson's International Career
Mattias Jonson made his first appearance for the Swedish national team in February 1996.
He was chosen to be part of the Swedish team for the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He played in two games as a substitute during this tournament. Sweden was later eliminated from the competition.
Mattias was also called up for the 2004 European Championship. He started this tournament on the bench, meaning he was a substitute. However, he was brought into games and eventually earned a spot in the starting team. He played in three of Sweden's four matches. He scored an important goal against Denmark. This goal helped Sweden move past the group stage of the tournament.
He represented Sweden again at the 2006 FIFA World Cup. In this World Cup, he played in all four of Sweden's matches. He ended his national team career in August 2006.

Mattias Jonson is a father. His son, Melker Jonsson, is also a footballer and plays for Djurgårdens IF, one of his father's former clubs.
