Åge Fridtjof Hareide (born on September 23, 1953) is a famous Norwegian football coach and former player. He recently retired from coaching the Iceland national team. During his time as a player, he played for teams like Hødd and Molde in Norway. He also played for well-known English clubs such as Manchester City and Norwich City. Hareide played 50 games for the Norwegian national team.
As a coach, Åge Hareide has achieved great success. He won league titles in all three Scandinavian countries: Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. He led Helsingborgs IF to a win in Sweden in 1999 and Malmö FF in 2014. In Denmark, he won with Brøndby in the 2001–02 season. He also won in his home country, Norway, with Rosenborg in 2003. From 2003 to 2008, Hareide was the coach of the Norway national team.
While coaching Malmö FF, he helped the team reach the UEFA Champions League group stages for the first two times in their history. Coaching the Norway National Team

Time with Viking FK
On June 10, 2009, it was announced that Hareide would coach Örgryte in Sweden. However, on December 1, 2009, he left the Swedish club. He then joined Viking in Norway, taking over from Uwe Rösler.
Viking finished 9th in 2010, which was Hareide's first season. They finished 11th in 2011. By June 9, 2012, the team was in 10th place. Because of these results, Hareide left Viking.
Return to Helsingborg
After Conny Karlsson left Helsingborgs IF, the club brought Hareide back. He was hired as the head coach until the end of the 2012 season. He had previously won the Allsvenskan league with Helsingborgs IF.
Success with Malmö FF
Åge Hareide came out of retirement to become the new manager of Malmö FF on January 9, 2014. Malmö FF was the reigning Swedish champion at the time. He quickly brought more success to the club.
In his first season, he led the team to win the Allsvenskan title again. He also helped them qualify for the group stage of the 2014–15 UEFA Champions League. This was a big achievement for the club. For his successful season, Hareide was named Allsvenskan Manager of the Year.
Leading the Denmark National Team
On December 10, 2015, Hareide was announced as the new manager of the Denmark national football team. He started his new job on March 1, 2016. In November 2017, he guided his Danish team to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. They achieved this by winning a play-off match against Ireland with a 5-1 score.
Hareide coached Denmark at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. His team finished second in their group. They were later knocked out in the Round of 16 after a penalty shootout against Croatia.
He continued as manager for the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying matches. Under his leadership, Denmark qualified for the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament. It was planned that Kasper Hjulmand would replace him after the tournament. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament was postponed, and Hareide's contract ended. When he left, he had not lost a game in regular time for 34 matches. His last defeat was on October 11, 2016.
Later Coaching Roles
In August 2020, Åge Hareide became the head coach of Rosenborg for a second time. In September 2022, he was announced as the new interim manager for Malmö FF.
On April 14, 2023, Åge Hareide became the new manager of the Iceland national football team. He resigned from this position on November 25, 2024. The very next day, he announced that he was retiring from coaching for good.
