Maurice Blocker (born May 15, 1963) is an American former professional boxer. He competed in the sport from 1982 to 1995. Maurice was a two-time world champion in the welterweight division. He held the WBC title from 1990 to 1991. He also held the IBF title from 1991 to 1992. He even tried to win the WBC super welterweight title in 1993.

Maurice Blocker's Boxing Journey

Maurice Blocker started his professional boxing career in 1982. He worked hard to become a champion. His first chance to win a big title was in 1987, but he lost that fight to Lloyd Honeyghan.

Winning World Titles

In 1990, Maurice Blocker achieved a major goal. He won the lineal and WBC welterweight titles. He took these titles from a boxer named Marlon Starling. However, he lost these titles in his very next fight to Simon Brown.

But Maurice didn't give up! In 1991, he fought Glenwood Brown and won the IBF welterweight title. This title was "vacant," meaning no one held it at the time. Maurice successfully defended this title once against Luis Garcia.

Later Fights and Retirement

In 1993, Maurice Blocker moved up to a heavier weight class. He challenged Terry Norris for the WBC light middleweight title. In this fight, he was stopped by a "Technical Knockout" (TKO). This means the referee or doctor stopped the fight because he couldn't safely continue.

Later that same year, he defended his IBF welterweight title against Félix Trinidad. Maurice was "Knocked Out" (KO) in the second round. This means he was unable to get up after being hit. Maurice Blocker retired from boxing in 1995. He had a great career with many wins.
