Maurice Longbottom (born 30 January 1995) is an Australian professional rugby union player. He plays a fast and exciting type of rugby called rugby sevens. Maurice is a key player for the Australia national sevens team. He usually plays as a scrum-half or fullback.
Maurice Longbottom's Rugby Journey
Maurice Longbottom started his rugby journey playing for junior teams. He played some matches for the South Sydney Rabbitohs junior squad. Even though some thought he was "too small" for senior rugby, his amazing skills soon caught the eye of coaches.
Playing for Australia
Maurice's great performance in a tournament called the Oktoberfest Sevens got the attention of the Australian rugby sevens team coach, Andy Friend. This led to him joining the national team.
He was part of the Australian men's rugby sevens squad that went to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The team played well in their group games. They then reached the quarter-finals, where they played against Fiji.
Maurice also represented Australia at the 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens. This big tournament was held in Cape Town, South Africa.
In 2024, Maurice Longbottom was chosen again for Australia's squad. He competed at the Summer Olympics in Paris, France. This showed how important he is to the team.
