Maurice Norman (born May 8, 1934 – died November 27, 2022) was a famous English football player. He played almost 400 games as a defender for two big clubs: Norwich City and Tottenham Hotspur. He also played 23 times for the England national team.

Playing for Football Clubs

Maurice Norman was born in Mulbarton, a small village in Norfolk, England. He started his football journey at Norwich City. He played 35 league games for them between 1952 and 1955. Even though he was only there for a short time, he was so good that he was added to the Norwich City Hall of Fame in 2002.

In November 1955, Maurice moved to Tottenham Hotspur. This move cost £28,000, which was a lot of money back then! The deal also included another player, Johnny Gavin, going to Norwich. Maurice played his first game for Tottenham against Cardiff City.

He stayed at Tottenham until 1965. During this time, he played 411 games for the first team and scored 19 goals. He was a very important part of the Tottenham team that won the "Double" in the 1960–61 season. This meant they won both the league title and the FA Cup in the same year! They also won the FA Cup again in 1962 and the Cup Winners' Cup in 1963.

Playing for England

Maurice Norman also played for the England national team. He played 23 games for his country. He was part of the England squad for the 1958 World Cup, but he didn't play in any matches. He did play in the 1962 World Cup.

Sadly, his career ended early in November 1965. He broke two bones in his leg while playing for Tottenham against a Hungarian team. This injury meant he could no longer play professional football.

His Later Life

Maurice Norman passed away on November 27, 2022, at the age of 88. He died from cancer.
