William Dallas Fyfe Brown (born October 8, 1931 – died November 30, 2004) was a famous Scottish football goalkeeper. He played a very important role in his teams.

He played for Dundee for ten years. After that, he became a star at Tottenham Hotspur from 1959 to 1966. At Tottenham, he was part of the amazing team that won the 'Double' in 1961. This meant they won both the top football league and the main cup competition (the FA Cup) in the same year! They were the first team to do this in the 1900s. Bill also played 28 times for the Scottish national team.

Bill Brown's Football Journey

Starting at Dundee

Bill Brown began playing football as a young person for Carnoustie Panmure. He then started his professional career with Dundee when he was still a teenager. He played over 200 games for Dundee in the Scottish Football League. This showed how good he was even at a young age.

Becoming a Tottenham Hotspur Star

In 1959, Tottenham Hotspur signed Bill Brown. He joined the team in June for £16,500. He stayed at White Hart Lane, Tottenham's home stadium, for seven years.

His biggest achievement was helping Tottenham win the 'Double' in 1961. This was a huge deal because they won both the Football League title and the FA Cup in the same season. Bill only missed one game that entire season! He was a key player in this historic win.

Bill also helped his team win the FA Cup again in 1962. The next year, in 1963, they won the European Cup Winners' Cup. This was a big European competition. One of his best games was against Bratislava in this cup.

Later, Bill got some injuries. Another great goalkeeper, Pat Jennings, also joined the team. Because of this, Bill started to play less often. His last game for Tottenham was a friendly match in October 1966. He then moved to Northampton Town that same month.

Playing for Northampton and Toronto

After leaving Tottenham, Bill played for Northampton Town for a short time. Then, he moved to Canada. He finished his playing career there with the Toronto Falcons. This was during the 1967 National Professional Soccer League season.

Playing for Scotland

Bill Brown was a very important player for his country. He played 28 times for the Scotland national team. He even played in the 1958 World Cup, which is one of the biggest football tournaments in the world.

He also represented Scotland at other levels. He played for the 'B' team, youth teams, and schoolboy teams. While he was playing for Dundee, he also represented the Scottish League XI.

Life After Football

After he stopped playing football, Bill Brown stayed in Canada. He worked as a property developer. He also worked for the government.

Bill passed away in 2004 when he was 73 years old. The news of his death came out just before Tottenham played a League Cup game against Liverpool. As a way to remember him, the Tottenham players wore black armbands during that match. This showed how much he was respected and missed.
