Max Tonetto (born on November 18, 1974) is a former Italian football player. He was a midfielder, which means he played in the middle of the field. Max was naturally left-footed, so he was very good with his left foot.
He often played on the left side of the field. Sometimes he was a left-back (a defender on the side) or a left wing-back (a player who defends and attacks on the side). Max played for many Italian clubs during his career. He is best known for his time at Roma. With Roma, he won the Coppa Italia (Italian Cup) two times in a row, in 2007 and 2008. He played for Roma for four seasons.

Max's Club Journey
Max Tonetto was born in Trieste, a city in Italy. In the year 2000, his football career changed when he moved to Lecce. He played very well there. By 2003, he became the team's captain. This meant he was the leader of the team on the field.
Playing for Sampdoria
From 2004 to 2006, Max had a lot of success at a team called Sampdoria. This team played in Serie A, which is the top football league in Italy. While at Sampdoria, he got to play in European football for the first time. This was in the UEFA Cup, a big competition for clubs across Europe.
Time with A.S. Roma
After his contract with Sampdoria ended, Max signed a two-year deal with Roma. He played more than 300 games in Serie A during his career. In his first season with Roma, he played very well as a left-back. Even though he was in his thirties, Max continued to play great games for Roma, even with some injuries.
Max scored his first goal for A.S. Roma during a game against Empoli. This happened in the 2007–08 season. He scored a fantastic goal after receiving a pass from the famous player Francesco Totti. In November 2007, he signed a new contract with Roma. This contract kept him with the team until June 30, 2010.
On March 11, 2009, Roma was playing against Arsenal in the Champions League. This is another very important European competition. The game went to a penalty shootout. Max took Roma's eighth and final penalty kick, but he shot it over the goal. Because of this, Roma was knocked out of the Champions League. His contract with Roma ended on June 30, 2010. After that, he stopped playing professional football.
Playing for Italy
Max Tonetto played for the Italian national team only once. This happened in 2007. He played against the Faroe Islands in a qualifying match for the UEFA Euro 2008 tournament.
