Maya Tskitishvili (Georgian: მაია ცქიტიშვილი; born 2 June 1974) is an important Georgian economist and politician. She served as a Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure from 2018 to 2021. She worked in the governments led by Mamuka Bakhtadze and Giorgi Gakharia. For a short time, she even served as the acting prime minister of Georgia after Giorgi Gakharia resigned.
Early Life and Education
Maya Tskitishvili was born on June 2, 1974, in Tbilisi. At that time, Tbilisi was part of Soviet Georgia. She studied hard and earned a degree in international economics. She got this degree from Tbilisi State University.
She also continued her studies abroad. She learned about International Trade at the University of Economics of Prague. She also attended the Caucasian School of Business. These studies helped her prepare for a career in business and government.
Career in Government
Before joining the government, Maya Tskitishvili worked in the private sector. She was a manager and director at several companies. One of these companies was Georgian Airways. This experience gave her a strong background in managing large organizations.
Later, she became the Head of the Chancellery of the Government. This was an important role where she helped manage the government's daily operations.
Important Roles
In 2018, Maya Tskitishvili became the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure. In this role, she was in charge of building and improving roads, bridges, and other important structures across Georgia. She also worked on developing different regions of the country.
From 2018 to 2021, she also served as a Deputy Prime Minister. This meant she was one of the senior members of the government. She helped the Prime Minister make big decisions for the country.
In February 2021, the Prime Minister at the time, Giorgi Gakharia, resigned. For a few days, Maya Tskitishvili stepped in as the acting prime minister of Georgia. This was a very important but short-term role. She helped keep the government running smoothly during this transition.
