Mall History
Mayagüez Mall first opened its doors in 1972. Back then, it had two of its current three sections. Some of the first big stores were Woolworth's, Walgreens, and Sears.
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the mall got a big makeover. They built the third and largest section. This new part had a JCPenney store. Later, one of the mall's smaller entrances was made bigger. This connected the mall to a Walmart store, which opened in the mid-1990s.
A department store called Gonzalez Padín used to be next to Sears. But it closed in the mid-1990s. Today, that space is used by Sears Brand Central. In December 2020, it was announced that the Sears store would close in February 2021.
