Discovering Mayfield's Past
Mayfield was first settled in 1871. Some of the first families to live here included the Andersons, Petersons, Petersens, Bartholomews, Jensens, Sorensens, and Willdens.
When these early settlers arrived, they learned something special from the Native Americans. The local tribes considered this area a "healing ground," a sacred place where people could find peace and recovery. It's even said that no fighting has ever happened in Mayfield, which makes its history quite unique!
