Mayfield is a small, unincorporated community located in the Town of Polk. It is part of Washington County, Wisconsin, in the United States. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government.

You can find Mayfield west of the village of Jackson. It is also located east of Slinger. The community sits close to where Wisconsin Highway 60 and U.S. Route 45 meet.

History of Mayfield

Mayfield was first settled and planned out in 1852. A man named Andreas Reiderer, who was an immigrant from Switzerland, started the community. He decided to name it after a town in Switzerland called Maienfeld.

Reiderer built a sawmill in Mayfield. This mill was located along the Cedar Creek. For a short time, the area was also known as Katzbach. This name came from Joseph Katz, who built a store there. Mayfield even had its own post office starting in 1859. However, the community began to decline quickly. This happened because the railroad chose to stop in Jackson instead. Jackson was less than a mile to the east.

Lady Antebellum Concert in Mayfield

On October 21, 2010, Mayfield became famous for a special event. The popular country music group Lady Antebellum performed a free concert there. They played at a Mobil gas station in the community.

The concert was a way for the group to make up for some comments they had made. These comments were in an interview with Entertainment Weekly magazine. They had talked about a performance they gave in nearby Slinger before they became very famous.

Charles Kelley, a member of Lady Antebellum, explained the situation. He said that their comments were taken out of context. He also mentioned that the magazine did not print the part where they said the Slinger performance was "a lot of fun."
