This area stretches north towards the south arm of the Hunter River. To the west, it reaches Tourle Street, and to the south, it borders Industrial Drive. Mayfield North is unique because it officially has no residents living there.
What is Mayfield North?
Mayfield North is mainly an industrial estate. This means it is a special area set aside for factories, warehouses, and other businesses. It is not a place where people usually live.
- Early Businesses: In the past, this estate was home to several important companies. These included CSR Chemicals, Titans, and Koppers.
- Steelworks Connection: A part of the large BHP Newcastle Steelworks was also located here. This included the No2 Merchant Mill, Rod Mill, Limestone Kiln, and a Spares Yard. These were all important parts of the steel-making process.
