Mazie Karen Turner (also known as Maize Karen Turner) was an Australian artist. She was born in Sydney in 1954 and passed away on June 7, 2014. Mazie Turner was known for her amazing work in photography, sculpture, and painting. She lived in Newcastle, Australia, for a long time.

After she finished art school, Mazie moved to Wangi Wangi. She had three children with her partner, Richard Tipping.

To remember her, a special sculpture called Morning was created by Richard Tipping in 2007. You can see it at the Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery's Sculpture Park. Her art was also shown in a memorial exhibition at the Newcastle Art Gallery in 2017. Later, her work was part of a big exhibition called "Know My Name" at the National Gallery of Australia in 2021-2022.

Mazie's Education and Teaching

Mazie Turner loved learning about art. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1976. She studied printmaking and photography at the South Australian School of Art.

Later, she continued her studies. She completed a Master of Arts degree in 1994 at the University of Western Sydney. She then went on to earn a PhD in fine art in 2008 from the University of Newcastle.

Mazie also shared her knowledge with others. She taught fine art at the University of Newcastle. She also lectured at the Newcastle Art School, which is part of Hunter TAFE.
