Małgorzata Szumowska (born February 26, 1973) is a talented Polish film director, screenwriter, and producer. She was born in Kraków, a city in Poland.
She has won many important awards for her movies. Her film In the Name Of won the Teddy Award in 2013. It also received a top prize at the Istanbul Film Festival. In 2015, her movie Body earned her the Silver Bear for Best Director award at the Berlin Film Festival. Later, in 2018, she won the Jury Grand Prix at the Berlin Film Festival for her film Mug. These awards show how much her work is respected around the world.

Her Journey in Film
Before becoming a filmmaker, Małgorzata Szumowska studied art history for two years. She then decided to follow her passion for movies. She went to the famous National Film School in Łódź. Many well-known directors like Andrzej Wajda and Roman Polański also studied there.
As a student, Szumowska made a short documentary film called Cisza (Silence). It showed the simple life of a family in the Polish countryside. This film was considered one of the best student films in the school's history.

Stranger

Małgorzata Szumowska comes from a family of journalists. Her parents were Maciej Szumowski and Dorota Terakowska. Her brother, Wojciech Szumowski, is also a documentary film director.
She married actor Mateusz Kościukiewicz in 2011. They have a daughter named Alina, who was born in 2012. Małgorzata also has a son named Maciej from an earlier relationship.
