In 2020, about 278 people lived in McAllister. You can find this community on U.S. Route 287. It is about 6 miles north of a town called Ennis. McAllister even has its own post office!
How McAllister Got Its Name
The first post office in this area opened in 1869. It was originally called "Meadow Creek."
Later, in 1896, the name was changed to McAllister. This new name honored James Alexander McAllister Jr. His parents were among the first families to settle in the area back in 1871.

McAllister is in the northeastern part of Madison County. It sits on the west side of Ennis Lake. This lake is a part of the Madison River.
