History of McAlpin
How McAlpin Started
The community of McAlpin began in 1882. By 1886, it was home to about 30 people. The area was named after a man named Daniel M. McAlpin.
The Story Behind the Name
Daniel M. McAlpin was an important person in the local newspaper business. In 1875, he bought a newspaper called the Live Oak Advertiser. He then changed its name to the Florida Bulletin. Later, the newspaper's name was changed again to the Suwannee Democrat, which is still a well-known local paper. The community was named in his honor because of his contributions to the area.
