The McGerrigle Mountains are a group of mountains located in the middle of the Gaspésie region in eastern Quebec, Canada. They are a big part of the Chic-Choc Mountains, which are themselves part of the larger Appalachian Mountains chain.
What's in a Name?
These mountains used to be called "Tabletop." But in 1965, their name was changed. They were renamed the McGerrigle Mountains to honor a geologist named Harold William McGerrigle. He was a scientist who studied rocks and the Earth. Mr. McGerrigle worked for the government of Quebec for many years, from 1937 to 1970.
