The McGill Drug Store Museum is a really cool old drug store in McGill, Nevada. It was open from 1915 to 1979. When it closed, everything inside was left exactly as it was! This included all the old medicines and even the records of prescriptions. Now, it's a museum with over 30,000 items. It's like a time capsule showing what drug stores were like long ago.
A Look Back in Time
This museum was first a drug store. It was owned by the McGill Drug Company. Before that, it might have been owned by the Steptoe Drug Company. Besides selling medicines, the store also had a fun soda fountain. You can still see the soda fountain today!
The drug store became a museum in 1995. This happened when White Pine County bought the building. A couple named Gerald and Elsa Culbert owned the store since the 1940s. Elsa continued to run the store and soda fountain. The drug store finally closed in 1979 when Gerald passed away. Many items were left just as they were, making it a perfect museum.
Amazing Collections
The museum is like a time capsule. It's full of items from the 1940s to the 1970s. You can see old medicines and medical tools. The building itself also shows history. It has strong steel parts from the mining boom era. You can also see a cool 1930s-style soda counter.
