History of The Mac
The McPherson Playhouse first opened its doors in 1914. It was originally built as a Pantages Theatre. These theatres were famous for showing vaudeville acts and movies.
A Gift to the City
In the 1960s, a kind person named Thomas Shanks McPherson gave the theatre to the people of Victoria. He also provided money to help fix it up. This generous gift helped save the theatre.
Becoming Part of Centennial Square
The theatre became part of a big city project called the Centennial Square redevelopment. This project was finished in 1965. During this time, the theatre was carefully renovated. Its beautiful old Neo-Baroque style auditorium was kept and made new again. However, a modern lobby and better technical equipment were added.
