The Royal Theatre is a famous building in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. It is a special kind of theatre called a "proscenium arch theatre." This means it has a big arch that frames the stage, like a picture frame. It is also a concert hall where many different shows happen.
The theatre was designed in 1912 by two architects. Their names were William D'Oyly Hamilton Rochfort and Eben W. Sankey. The Royal Theatre first opened its doors in 1913. For many years, from 1917 to 1981, it was used as a cinema. In 1972, the cities of Oak Bay, Saanich, and Victoria bought the theatre. Since 1982, it has become one of Canada's best places for touring shows. It has modern equipment but still looks like a beautiful building from the early 1900s.
In 1987, the Royal Theatre was named a National Historic Site of Canada. This means it is a very important place in Canadian history. Today, the theatre can hold 1,416 people. It is a popular spot for concerts and musicals. You can see both local and international performances there.
