What is the Meadowlands Environment Center?
The Meadowlands Environment Center is an educational facility. This means it's a place designed for learning. It used to be called the Hackensack Meadowlands Environmental Center. Its main goal is to teach people about the local environment and how to protect it.
Who Manages the Center?
Currently, Ramapo College of New Jersey is in charge of running the center. They took over in February 2015. Before that, another group called the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission started the center. Now, the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority oversees Ramapo College's work there.
Richard W. DeKorte Park
The Meadowlands Environment Center is found inside a beautiful area called Richard W. DeKorte Park. This park is named after a very important person.
Who Was Richard W. DeKorte?
Richard W. DeKorte was a resident of Franklin Lakes, New Jersey. He was a politician who served in the New Jersey General Assembly. He was the "majority leader," which means he was a very important leader for his political party in the Assembly. Mr. DeKorte helped create the original commission that first developed the environment center. He did this by supporting a special law, or "legislation," that made it possible.
