The Medway River is a river in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is about 11.0-mile-long (17.7 km), which is around 17.7 kilometers. This river is special because it is a "tidal" river. This means its water level changes with the ocean's tides, just like a beach at high and low tide.

Where Does the Medway River Start and End?

The Medway River begins when three smaller rivers meet. These are the Laurel View River, the Belfast River, and the Tivoli River. All three of these smaller rivers are also tidal.

The Medway River then flows into a larger body of water. It empties into St. Catherines Sound. This sound is a part of the huge Atlantic Ocean.

What Counties Does the Medway River Touch?

For almost its entire length, the Medway River acts like a natural border. It separates two counties in Georgia: Bryan County and Liberty County.

Near where the river meets the ocean, another county joins in. Chatham County is located on the north side of the river's mouth. So, the river is an important landmark for these three areas.
