Arch tower
Arch Tower, in Mee Canyon

Mee Canyon is a beautiful, quiet area located within the Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness. This wilderness is a big part of the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area, which is looked after by the Bureau of Land Management. Because it's a bit tricky to get to and doesn't have many visitor facilities, Mee Canyon stays wild and natural. This helps protect its amazing landscapes and wildlife.

You can reach Mee Canyon in two main ways. One way is by boat, traveling along the Colorado River. The other way is by hiking from a special starting point for trails near a town called Glade Park.

Cool Things to See in Mee Canyon

Mee Canyon has some incredible natural features that make it a unique place to explore.

Arch Tower

One of the most famous sights is Arch Tower. This impressive rock tower stands about 375 feet (114 meters) tall. It's made of a type of rock called Wingate Sandstone. What makes Arch Tower extra special is that it has a natural arch right through it. A natural arch is like a bridge made of rock, formed over many years by wind and water. People first managed to climb this tall tower in 2003.

The Hidden Alcove

Another amazing spot is a deep alcove. An alcove is like a large, hollowed-out space in the side of a cliff. This one is about 100 feet (30 meters) deep. It was carved out of the soft sandstone by a stream that flows all year round. Inside the alcove, the stream winds its way around a big pile of rocks. These rocks fell from the ceiling of the alcove a long time ago.
