Meelon is a small town in the Peel region of Western Australia. It is located between the towns of Pinjarra and Dwellingup. Meelon is part of the Shire of Murray. In 2011, about 224 people lived there.
A Look Back: Meelon's History
Meelon first started as a place for sawmills. This was in the early 1900s. The area had a big timber industry. A railway line helped move the timber. It connected Pinjarra to Narrogin. Meelon had a special stop, called a siding, on this railway.
By the 1950s, the timber industry began to slow down. Because of this, Meelon almost disappeared.
Meelon Today
Today, Meelon is mostly made up of medium-sized farms. The people living there rely on Pinjarra for most of their services. This means they go to Pinjarra for shops, schools, and other needs.
