Mehcad Brooks (born October 25, 1980) is an American actor. He used to be a fashion model. He is famous for playing different characters in popular TV shows. These include Matthew Applewhite in Desperate Housewives, "Eggs" Benedict Talley in True Blood, and Terrance "TK" King in Necessary Roughness. He also played James Olsen in Supergirl. Since 2022, he has been playing Detective Jalen Shaw in the TV show Law & Order.

Early life
Mehcad Brooks was born and grew up in Austin, Texas. He went to L.C. Anderson High School there. His mom, Alberta Phillips, writes for a newspaper. His dad, Billy Brooks, used to be a professional football player.
After finishing high school in 1999, Mehcad went to the University of Southern California (USC). He studied film and television there. He once shared that he chose USC even though he was offered basketball scholarships. He also turned down offers from other top universities. He later left college to start his acting career.
Career
Mehcad Brooks started his career as a model. He even modeled for Calvin Klein underwear.
In 2004, he appeared in the TV show Cold Case. From 2005 to 2006, he played Matthew Applewhite in the TV drama Desperate Housewives. He was also in the movie Glory Road. In this film, he played Harry Flournoy, a college basketball player.
In 2007, he acted in the movie In the Valley of Elah. In 2008, he played Jerome in the TV series The Game. He also appeared in FOX's Dollhouse in 2009. Brooks played Benedict "Eggs" Talley in the second season of True Blood.
From 2011 to 2013, Mehcad was a main actor in the USA Network series Necessary Roughness. He played Terrence "TK" King, a football player. His character had anger issues and had to see a therapist.
From the start of the show until partway through its fifth season, Brooks played James Olsen in the TV drama Supergirl. James Olsen was a main character in the series.
On October 20, 2017, Mehcad Brooks released his first song, called "Tears Away."
In 2019, it was announced that he would play Jax Briggs in the Mortal Kombat movie. This film was released on April 23, 2021. In June 2022, he joined the cast of the long-running crime show Law & Order. He plays Detective Jalen Shaw in season 22.
Personal life
Mehcad Brooks is the son of Billy Brooks, a former NFL football player.
He has shared that he really enjoys playing video games. Some of his favorite games include Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, and Madden.
His older twin brother, Billy Brooks IV, used to be a regular on a website called Spill.com. Now he appears on its new version, Double Toasted.
