Mehrdad Minavand (born November 30, 1975 – died January 27, 2021) was a professional football player and coach from Iran. He was best known for playing as a left midfielder. This means he played on the left side of the field, helping both with defense and offense. He could also play as a left winger or a left-back.
Minavand was an important player for the Iran national football team. He even played in the 1998 FIFA World Cup, which is a huge international football tournament.
Sadly, on January 21, 2021, Minavand was hospitalized in Tehran because he had COVID-19. Six days later, on January 27, he passed away from the virus at the age of 45.

Playing for Top Clubs
Minavand began his professional career in Iran. He played for Pas in 1994. From 1995 to 1998, he played for Persepolis, one of Iran's most famous clubs. During his time at Persepolis, he played in 89 games and scored 13 goals.
After his success in Iran, Minavand moved to Europe. He joined Sturm Graz in Austria, where he played from 1998 to 2001. He played 67 matches for them. Later, he also played for Charleroi in Belgium in 2001-2002. He then returned to Asia, playing for Al-Shabab in the United Arab Emirates.
Minavand came back to Iran to play for Persepolis again from 2002 to 2004. He also played for Sepahan and Rah Ahan before ending his playing career.
Playing for Iran National Team
Mehrdad Minavand was a key player for the Iran national football team. He represented his country from 1996 to 2003. He played in 67 international matches for Iran and scored 4 goals.
One of the biggest highlights of his career was playing in the 1998 FIFA World Cup. This is a very important event where national teams from all over the world compete. He also participated in the 1996 AFC Asian Cup and the 2000 AFC Asian Cup.
