Mel Bennett played for teams in both the American Basketball Association (ABA) and the National Basketball Association (NBA). He grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and played basketball in high school and college there.

Today, he works as an aide at Ocean City Intermediate School in Ocean City, New Jersey. He's known for giving students snacks as prizes for answering his trivia questions. In 2015, students even voted for him to dress up as a turkey for Thanksgiving!

Mel Bennett's Basketball Journey

Mel Bennett started his professional basketball career in 1975. He played as a power forward, a position where players are strong and good at getting rebounds.

Playing in the ABA

His first professional team was the Virginia Squires in the ABA. He played for them during the 1975–1976 season. The ABA was a professional basketball league that later merged with the NBA.
