Her Education and Early Career
Mel Douglas studied art at the Australian National University. She earned her degree in Glass Workshop in the year 2000. This is where she learned many skills for working with glass.
Her Unique Art Style
Mel Douglas uses a special way to create her glass art. First, she hand-blows the glass into different shapes. These can be open or closed vessels. Sometimes they are useful, and sometimes they are just for display.
After blowing the glass, she spends many hours sanding it. This makes the surface of the glass look soft and matte. It can feel like velvet or suede.
