Melody Thomas Scott (born Melody Ann Thomas on April 18, 1956) is an American actress. She started acting when she was a child. One of her first movies was the thriller Marnie. She also appeared in films like The Beguiled (1971) and The Shootist (1976). In 1979, she began playing Nikki Newman on the CBS daytime TV show, The Young and the Restless.

Melody's Early Life and Acting Career

Melody Ann Thomas was born in Los Angeles, California. Her first movie role was as a child actress in the 1964 Alfred Hitchcock film Marnie. On television, she appeared in shows like My Three Sons and Wagon Train.

She had supporting roles in the movie The Beguiled (1971). She also acted in Western films like Posse (1975) and The Shootist (1976). In The Shootist, she shared lines with the famous actor John Wayne. In the late 1970s, Melody guest-starred on TV series such as The Rockford Files and Charlie's Angels. She also had a recurring role on The Waltons.

Becoming Nikki Newman

In 1979, when she was 23 years old, Melody Thomas Scott took on the role of Nikki Reed. Nikki was a character from a poor background on the TV show The Young and the Restless. Melody chose this role over a pilot for a comedy show that was not picked up.

Over time, her character Nikki changed and became an important part of Genoa City society. Nikki married Victor Newman, played by Eric Braeden. Melody has said that it is amazing for an actor to have a job for so many years. In 1999, she was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for her acting.

Melody Thomas Scott has also made guest appearances on other TV shows. These include Hotel, Diagnosis Murder, The Nanny, and The King of Queens. She also appeared on the game show The $25,000 Pyramid.

On February 19, 2019, The Young and the Restless had a special episode to celebrate Melody Scott's 40 years with the show. In 2024, she received the Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award. This award honors her long and successful career.
